Our Eight Best-Selling Medium Roast Coffees

As we continue to explore our various roasts, this week we'll look at our top medium roast coffees.

medium roast coffees

Medium roast coffees are darker, coming in at between 410 and 428 degrees Fahrenheit. This puts them at just after first crack and just before second crack. A medium roast applied to coffees can highlight some of the heavier and more prominent natural flavors while simultaneously masking any unfavorable flavors. In general, you will taste more notes of milk chocolate, caramel, and toasted nuts.

Our Top Eight Medium Roasts

Costa Rica Reserve

Our Costa Rica Reserve is our most popular medium-roast coffee. This strictly hard bean coffee grows at altitudes of 3,900 feet or more. The cooler temperatures at these higher elevations cause the cherries to mature slower and become denser and richer in flavor. Enjoy this medium-bodied brew with its perfectly balanced flavor, rich chocolaty caramel notes, and winy acidity. The sharp finish means this coffee would be ideal with food.

Kenya AA

Considered one of the world's finest arabica bean coffees, our Kenya AA is prized for its excellent flavor and body. To be given the AA grade means the beans are larger in size and have greater flavor. Kenya AA grows in the volcanic soils near the region where coffee was first discovered. Bold and heavy, you'll enjoy the complexity, earthiness, and hints of fruit.

Colombia Supremo 'La Valle Verde'

Colombia is known for rich, gourmet coffee of the highest quality. The Colombian Coffee Federation supports more than a million coffee farmers in Colombia. Our Colombia Supremo 'La Valle Verde' is one of these exceptional coffees. Known for its rich flavor, perfect balance, and delightful smoothness, you'll enjoy the light sweetness, bright acidity, and clean taste.

Organic Decaf 'Swiss Water' Peru

From the highlands of Peru, our unique Organic Decaf 'Swiss Water' Peru is ideal for those who prize organically grown coffee. Not only do the farmers grow this coffee without the use of harmful pesticides and chemical fertilizers, but the process by which it is decaffeinated is also all-natural. Once the coffee beans are harvested by hand and processed, they are decaffeinated using only water to remove the caffeine. We then medium roast the beans to highlight the smoothness and mild flavors. You'll find no bitterness in this well-balanced and full-bodied decaf coffee.

Sumatra Mandheling

Heavy and complex, our Sumatra Mandheling is a singularly unique coffee with a story to go along with it. After being lost for almost 100 years, this coffee was found hiding in the jungle undergrowth in Sumatra. They were replanted in Mandheling and have thrived there ever since. Recognized as one of the finest gourmet coffees in the world, you're sure to find the syrupy flavors of brown sugar and dark chocolate to be a fine combination with the full-bodied smoothness. Take your time with this brew and you might even discover notes of mango, peach, and floral herbs.

Hawaiian Kona 'Volcanic Estate'

For something extremely smooth and full of flavor, our Hawaiian Kona 'Volcanic Estate' can't be beat. This coffee is considered one of the finest in the world. It grows in the rich volcanic soil, kissed by the Hawaiian sun, and caressed by the salty sea breeze. This paradise setting produces a coffee that is hard to equal. The exceptional smoothness is complemented by flavors of milk chocolate and fruity undertones that make it bright and flavorful.

Hawaiian Kona Reserve Blend

Also from the Hawaiian paradise, our Hawaiian Kona Reserve Blend is a somewhat more affordable version of our delightful Kona single-origin. Our highest grade of Kona is blended with other 100% pure arabica bean coffees to keep the incredible smoothness and delightful milk chocolate notes as well as a slight nuttiness. Bright, with a subtle sweetness, this blend is perfect any time of day.

Espresso Italia

It might surprise you to find an espresso on our list of medium roasts, but it's not as uncommon as you might think. Not all coffees used for espresso have to have a dark roast to make a great espresso, latte, or cappuccino. As a matter of fact, the lighter roast will allow other desired flavors to shine through. For example, our Espresso Italia is bright and complex with a smoothness you might not be used to from some of those "popular" coffee shops. Try making your own cafe drinks at home with our Espresso Italia and see how much better they taste.

Add one (or all!) of these best-selling medium roast coffees to your cart and enjoy these flavorful brews.
